Chatsworth Road Lunch Club

Marie, Beatrice, Loretta, Merlin & Olivene

Marie, Beatrice, Loretta, Merlin, & Olivene welcome you to the Chatsworth Road Methodist Lunch Club.

The Club serves elders over the age of 60 with a meal, friendship, exercise and craftwork every Thursday from 11.00 am at Clapton Park Methodist Church, 99 Chatsworth Road, E5. The cost of a session is £3.50 including the meal and all the activities.

It begins with group exercise in the morning led by an instructor. After a time of fellowship, lunch is available. Lunch can include soup & dumplings, roast chicken, fried fish, curried goat, sweetcorn, rice & peas, potatoes, vegetables, salad, coleslaw, yam and stew peas. The afternoon concludes with craftwork, or chat over a cuppa.

The club has had healthy living workshops. Topics have included sickle cell and thalassaemia, accident prevention, cancer, how to stop smoking, healthy eating, self-care management, arthritis and exercise. These workshops have started again in 2007.

In September 2005, March 2006 and June 2007, all the community were invited to a community health day at the club... Health Day

Members travel away together once a year for a holiday, and go out on visits, including a day trip to Skegness. They saw the play 'Men Should Weep' at the Hackney Empire.

Members come to the Club from all over the borough including Clapton Park, Hackney, Clapton, Homerton, Stamford Hill and Dalston. The staff, who are all volunteers, and the members together make the club such a success.

Harold sums it up; “A club like this is the best thing that could have happened.”
