DORIS EDITH WINIFRED HUMPHRIES

4 June 1927 - 9 April 2007

Doris Edith Winifred Warner was born on 4 June 1927 at 132 Mildmay Road to Elizabeth and George. Her father was a print worker who later transferred to the Post Office. The family were the original tenants in 1952 of their flat in Mildenhall Road where Doris lived ever since.

In 1966, she married Ron Humphries and the following year, their daughter Elizabeth was born. She worked for the council as a home help. Sadly, Ron died in 1986.

Doris originally worshipped at Haggerston Mission with her family starting off in the Sunday School there. She later moved to worship at Clapton Park Methodist Church at Chatsworth Road and was the senior steward there for many years. Every month, she worked hard to set up and oversee the church's coffee morning. She kept in touch with former members of Haggerston Mission and joined in the annual reunion of Haggerston members at Wesley's Chapel in City Road.

Elizabeth and Doris
She was an active member of the Circuit Sisterhood at Mare Street and she helped set out the refreshments with her friend, Gladys Doddimeade. Doris always gave tremendous support to her daughter Elizabeth (pictured with Doris on the right). She also gave marvellous pastoral care to Flo Mattacks in the church, contacting her almost every day.
Doris was committed to Macmillan Cancer Relief and organised a coffee morning for it every year as part of the biggest coffee morning in the world... Macmillan Cancer Relief She was also a supporter of Christian Aid.

She died on 9 April 2007, just the day after Easter Sunday.

We pray for her daughter Elizabeth and her niece Susan and Susan's family in Crewe.
