In Loving Memory
JOSEPH JAMES RICHARD BARZEY
Sunrise 25 April 1933 Sunset 21 June 2005
Joseph known as Joe Ki, was born in Underwood in Montserrat on the 25th April 1993, the son of Joseph Larry Allen and Caroline Eliza Francis Barzey. He was mainly brought up by his grandmother on his mother's side. As a boy, he attended the local church and Sunday School. At age five, he attended Cavalley Hill School. After leaving school, he did not pursue a career as that would have meant travelling away from his grandmother whom he dearly loved and was so attached to.
Joe wanted to be a carpenter but instead he took on responsibility of the family home and working the family land which also included livestock. In essence he was always his own man but maintained a good family relationship and was extremely supportive of his brother Ben.
After some years he was persuaded by his grandmother to leave Montserrat to broaden his knowledge and travel to see the world. He first travelled to St. Kitts, spending between four and five years there. Joe then returned to Montserrat taking up where he had left off. In the late '50s, he decided to travel to the UK where he spent a few years and then again returned to Montserrat, where life seemed so rich and fulfilling. Due to the volcanic eruptions in Montserrat, he was forced to leave and return to Britain where he spent the last nine years of his life.
Joe was a devoted member of the Keep Monserrat Alive Group. He never missed any meetings. He was a very committed man. Socially he was a quiet man. He never had a lot to say, but he took in what was going on around him. Joe was a great observer. He was also fun loving. He like to make those he appreciated laugh. He also liked to sing which he was known for. Whilst among the Keep Monserrat Alive Group, he often sing 'Small Yam an Tanya mek de greatest soup' which he loved!
Joe was a firm believer in God and the Christian faith. He made it his duty to attend church every Sunday and he would often be the first to arrive. He loved the Lord, and those who truly knew him believe "he is shading under his wings, safe from all harm and evil". He is now gone but he leaves behind to mourn him his son Robert (known as Barzey), he brother Ben, five grandchildren, serveral nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Rest in peace Joe. Your time on earth had ended. There will be no more heartache, no more sorrow, no more pain. Your mansion is in heaven where your heavenly Father will welcome you with open arms. May your soul rest in peace Joe. You are gone but you will never be forgotten.
