In Loving Memory
AMARELLIS LOUISE CORKE
Sunrise 29 July Sunset 17 November 2005
Amarellis Louise Corke (known as Mami) was born in Dickson's village in the island of St. Vincent, West Indies on 29 July 1910. She was the youngest of five chidren; Alicia, Gwendolyn, Euphemia (Dora), John and Louise. She was educated at Dickson and Georgetown schools.
She had three children; Carmel, who died in infancy, Enos her son, who she buried in 2000, and Gloria who is still with us. She was a staunch Methodist and sang with the Methodist choirs in Dickson and Georgetown. At home in St. Vincent she was lovingly called the reverend as she preached to everyone, always pointing her index finger to drive home her point.
She came to England in 1967 and joined the Methodist Church at Downs Road in Clapton. She remained there until her death. She was the Overseas Mission Secretary until recently. In 1980 she went to Israel and was baptised in the River Jordan. This was the fulfilment of one of her dreams. In 1999, she visited her brother who is still alive in Venezuela.
The Good Lord blessed her with a long and fruitful life for almost a century. She was in control of most of her faculties, with good eyesight, teeth and a brilliant memory. She was loved and cherished by all. Faithful to the end, we all thank the Lord for the life of Mami. May her soul rest in peace.
The Good Lord apportions to us seventy, but Mami was greedy and wanted plenty. She achieved in excess of ninety. She was heading for a centuy, but that was not to be.
